Objective

What is an Objective?

The qualitative destination in an OKR system that describes what a team wants to achieve and why it matters.

An Objective is the narrative part of an OKR. It should be clear, memorable, and directional rather than numeric. A strong Objective gives the team a shared sense of purpose and helps everyone understand why the work matters.

The Objective is not the scorecard. That is the role of the Key Results. If the Objective says where you are going, the Key Results tell you whether you are getting there.
Strong Objective
Deliver an onboarding experience that makes new customers confident from day one.
Weak Objective
Reach 37 signups per day. (That is a metric, not a qualitative destination.)
