Initiatives & Tasks

What are OKR Initiatives?

The specific operational projects, tasks, or hypotheses your team executes hoping to move the needle on a Key Result.

While Key Results strictly define the 'what' and 'how much', Initiatives define the actual 'how'. Initiatives are the to-do list items attached to an OKR.

Critically, completing an Initiative does not guarantee OKR progress. If your team launches a new product feature (the Initiative), but your Key Result metric (User Engagement) doesn't budge, the strategy failed. OKR systems force teams to treat Initiatives as scientific hypotheses rather than static to-do lists.
Key Result (The Outcome)
Decrease application page load time from 3.0 seconds to 1.2 seconds.
Initiative (The Output)
Migrate frontend asset hosting to a global Edge CDN and optimize bundle sizes. (We hope this accomplishes the Key Result).
